Human rights laws are man-made and can and must be changed to deal with people who do not respect and infringe upon the rights of the masses.

It is nonsensical for judiciary and law enforcer to say that their hands are tied, or go lenient on repeat offenders or criminals. Everyone, when their titles are stripped off when not on duty, can exercise their rights to raise their voice and opinion as an individual citizen seeking changes to the incorrectness or unfairness of the laws.

I have said many times that I am a no nonsense person. I would like to see regions free from industrial laws and employment laws and with restrictive human rights, where these irresponsible culprits are punished to work as the Chain Gang, similar to those portrayed in the Wild West movies.

What will Mr Facey do with the fine-evaders after they are caught?

Karaoke bar OK in Kingsway

The City shopping precinct is not very large compared with some suburbs. Having three Karaoke bars seems far from excessive. I am not proud to live in a City which is second highest in contributing towards gambling loss, or in a State claiming highest binge drinking record.

With another karaoke site where alcohol is served till 1 am, more alcohol-fuel conflicts will occur and may even flow on to the street after the trading hours. A Google search provided the following historical karaoke brawls and stabbings:

28/4/2012 – a brawl over a girl outside a Railway Parade karaoke bar left one man in hospital and another with minor injuries
20/11/2011 - a large fight in front of the karaoke bar in Railway Parade about 3am, attackers were armed with baseball bats and metal poles, 10 were admitted to hospital with various injuries
17/4/2006 - a man stabbed three times in the back at a Melbourne karaoke bar in Church Street, Abbotsford died in hospital

Many Monash Councillors are too young and have no life experience to make such crucial decision, while the remainders are so isolated from the rest of the world to understand what is like beyond the long Australian coastline.

The City shopping precinct is not very large compared with some suburbs. Having three Karaoke bars seems far from excessive. I am not proud to live in a City which is second highest in contributing towards gambling loss, or in a State claiming highest binge drinking record.

With another "entertainment" site where alcohol is served till 3 am, and more than likely females providing services beyond just accompanying clients in singing, the City is doomed even if it is not mentioned in the Aztec calendar.

Competition is good for consumers but not among the competing businesses. When one's business and hence profit is cannibalised, trouble will flare. In some Australian suburbs, shopkeepers are subjected to pressures to pay protection money, and very soon City of Monash will experience the same if business operation like this is not curbed and monitored. Once organised gangs move in, it is difficult to weed them out.

I attended the CNY celebration last year, and there were several stalls selling non-original, copied DVDs. The incident was reported to the duty police officer but no action was taken.

Just a few days ago, one of the world's largest file-sharing sites has been shut down in US, and its founder and several company executives charged with violating piracy laws. Are these Monash traders not violating the piracy and copyright laws?

I would like to see that these traders be prosecuted for violating the laws. Although City of Monash does not have the jurisdiction to prosecute the offenders, but the City do have the obligation to stop these people selling items in breach of the law, no difference from paddling drugs in the Monash precinct.

I am writing this and put the City on notice before the coming event, to be held on 5 February.

Kingsway Chaos

I am not scare mongering about the potential harm that could happen in the region if planning was not well thought out, allowing perceived city prosperity came before social harmony.

The brawl outside the Glen Waverley karaoke club at 3 am 20/11/2011 that left six people injured is just the start. Glen Waverley may be considered fairly affluent, and the good image can be tarnished easily in the future if drug traffickers use these commercial and entertainment venues to prey on the patrons and thugs start to claim their turfs.

It is most unfortunate that some cities in Melbourne metropolitan suffer from such fate and no solutions are in sight!

One of the determining criteria of an address of residence is NOT to be next to or within walking distance to commercial area, particularly where alcohol is served, sleazy entertainment provided or dim dark lanes only rodents would dare to roam at night.

I had written to local papers when they approved the construction of a new six-storey Karaoke bar with licence to open to 3 am warning that more trouble would be looming and organised gangs would flourish.

Unfortunately, peace has been around since the founding of Glen Waverley, and most people have never experienced what life is like when gangs start to carve up their turfs in an area. Basic instinct of wild animals is after all territorial, or rather the urge to occupy and own territories.

I posted to Letters to Editor on Friday, 7 January 2011 regarding the Proposed Monash 6-storey Development.

I was looking into a crystal ball then. I was not scare mongering about the potential harm that could happen in the region if planning was not well thought out, allowing perceived city prosperity came before social harmony. The brawl outside the Glen Waverley karaoke club at 3 am 20/11/2011 that left six people injured is just the start.

Glen Waverley may be considered fairly affluent, and the good image can be tarnished easily in the future if drug traffickers use these commercial and entertainment venues to prey on the patrons and thugs start to claim their turfs. Whether we like it or not, it's about time all school compound should be fenced up. The inside of many properties, including schools, may have installed with burglar alarm systems, and yet the surrounds are so inviting and so easily accessible that by the time an intruder gets inside the compound, a lot of damage could have be done.

• Possible organised gangs will be attracted and infiltrated to this area with early morning licence
  
• Non-existing by-laws to ensure balanced mix of business
  

Although I’m a Chinese by descent, I definitely do not like to see the Kingsway turned into a Chinatown like Box Hill, Springvale, Richmond in Melbourne, or Eastwood, Chatswood and Cabramatta in Sydney - almost filled with Asian restaurants or businesses.

Only a balanced mix of businesses and ethnicity in the City of Monash will ensure racial harmony in the near and long-term future.

Prevention is better than cure. It's about time that all schools conduct fire-safe (not fire safety) audit to minimise / stop potential fire bug attacks.
