Cr Drieberg, why are showing your face in this report? it does not convey any useful message except that you are showing off again.

I was at the launch of the GEAR program, sitting at the last row at the auditorium. A lady was trying to calm down a happy, playful young boy, hopping up and down the chair in the second last row. Later I realised that the lady was Kristine.

I listened attentively to the brave lady Kristine addressing the audience. On one hand, I felt for her torturous experience, but one the other, I was very pleased to see that she was no longer living in fear but with a happy child, presumably hers.

Many program tackle the damage. Repeat offenders seldom get the punishments they deserve. However, in my opinion, the biggest culprits are not the physical offenders, but the providers of items that cause such evils and sometimes irreparable damages.

Not again, Cr Drieberg, are you posing for the camera or campaigning for outdoor smoking ban? Besides she is a bit of a drama queen.

"... You can have someone sitting over a coffee, a $4 coffee for hours on end, or you can have a family come in, have a meal, spend hundreds of dollars and be in and out within an hour".

During busy time when an eatery is packed with people, it will be silly for an operator to allow a customer to hang around for hours just for $4 coffee. However, if an operator does allow a customer to do so, it is likely the eatery is quiet because most people are at work. It is illogical to assume that the families will be out in force spending hundreds of dollars.

However, if an operator does allow a customer to do so, it is likely the eatery is quiet because most people are at work. Monash Mayor Micaela Drieberg said we could physically see where our rates went, not going off into a black "pot" hole. True it may seem, but the rates are literally going down the drain of the new swimming pool, the one that Cr Drieberg had pointed out. The swimming pools are luxuries and should be sold off to private enterprises.

And what of the Euneva car park? It is a complete waste of an expensive piece of real estate. Placed ‘remotely’ from the shops and where the action is, it is underutilised and will be for years to come. It is definitely an additional financial burden to the hip-pockets of the ratepayers.

Property prices have gone up and therefore the rates. Unfortunately, the capital appreciation is of no value to the property owners until the properties are sold and the benefits realised. With an ageing population no longer in the workforce, a 6 per cent increase in rates is 6 per cent too much.

Monash Mayor Micaela Drieberg looks great and photogenic, doesn't she? Putting praise aside, I see her photos appear in many news items in the Monash Weekly totally irrelevant to the event. Take the photo in the news item "State flunks test on at-risk youth, says Monash principal" for example, it is more of a portrait of two buddies taken in a studio and has nothing to do with funding from government for vulnerable children.

Another example is in the Huntingdale rubbish dumping news item with the Mayor sitting on top of a heap of rubbish.

For goodness sake, Mayor, you are not in modelling sessions for City of Monash. Your photo has flunked the test of adding value to the report.

PS I would Mayor Drieberg take note of this comment.

Come on, Mayor, you look pathetic sitting on a heap of rubbish like a fashion model. What sort of message are you trying to convey, an endorsement to hang around to be picked to the tip? I reckon that it is cheap shot for a photo session, in particular a person with a respectable position like a Mayor.

I have written on numerous occasions that I believe in no nonsense and zero tolerance. Culprits should not only be fined, but also do some real dirty hard labour, namely lifting the rubbish to a dump truck and clean up the place. They will be assigned duties on site to stop other dumpers from rubbishing the place.

Mayor Micaela Drieberg is quoted as saying about the background of her name and complexion: ‘‘I'm Sri Lankan — that's what I say.’’. So Cr Drieberg, are you Australian or Sri Lankan? I am an Australian of Chinese descent!

For goodness sake, forget about the battle of the sexes and have a life.

Like many people, I don't need any reminder, and I never have said that women cannot lead; so why is it necessary to make such a statement "... especially to remind everyone that women do have a place in leadership".

By saying that, Cr Drieberg is only reflecting her lack of confidence, trivialising an outdated perception and insulting the intelligence of many people like me who can make judgement about the rightful candidate to hold the top job.

Who is stopping the women to stand as candidates in Council election? Who have been stopped to vote for a female representative? No one!

It is nonsensical to keep emphasising gender balance. This is a free country; it is the prerogative for a woman who has the drive and desire to stand in a council election to go for it.

Have men been complaining about most receptionists being women, or the air hosting dominated by female? The concept of gender balance starts from home and school, where parents and teachers have the most influence on the individuals.

City of Monash's CEO and current Mayor are female - the two top jobs in the city. I am glad that Dr Chan Cheah, a female, vice President of the Monash Ratepayers will be standing in the Mulgrave ward where I reside in. I hope she stands as a candidate, not because she wants to prove the point that she is female, but someone who has passion about the affairs of the city and wellbeing of us - the ratepayers!
